Lunch Edition

Packing lunches for school after the first week, is never an easy job. There can be so much planning that goes into making sure you pack something your little love will eat. Since my littlest bestie thought that my sisters and I were cool eating sushi the other night, I decided to make her own version of sushi today. It's a turkey sandwich wrapped and cut into sushi bites. She was SO excited this morning! Even my brother-in-law couldn't resist a bite of these delicious wraps I made for Abi. Being an aunt is fun especially when I get the chance to make lunch time cool.

Behind the Scenes: 1st Day of School

Last week was my little love's first day of K4. The first day of school is such an exciting day and, being the fun aunt Ali that I am, I tried to make it the best morning ever. Abi and I jammed to our favorite songs while eating blueberry muffins the whole way. We arrived at her school 45 minutes early for a quick photo-op with the whole family. We grabbed the girls out of the car and went back for their brother. It was then that we realized the car had locked by itself with the keys still in the ignition and Abi's school bag inside. A setting had gotten messed up (4 minutes after turing off the engine the car was set to automatically lock the doors)... Dang smart cars! Even worse than a missing school bag, baby Mason was still in his car seat in the car! Ahh!! While her dad tried to open the door with a hanger, her mom got on the phone with 911. Just before we were going to resort to busting a window, not one but 2 police officers showed up. Circus spectacle to say the least, but with the officers help, we finally got the door open. Hallelujah! Never a dull moment!! 1st day of school pictures, not quite the look we were going for, but sometimes all you can do is laugh.

GLAM Squad Assemble!

I am so blessed to have such a fabulous Glam Squad! It takes my whole team here to get me ready for a night out. Thankfully I have two very stylish littlest besties who are always eager to help make sure that I look good before heading out the door.
"Um, not those shoes Aunt Ali."
Getting ready would not have been nearly as fun without you girlies! Love y'all!

Behind the Scenes: The Terrible Two's

The highly dreaded "terrible two's" has hit my sister's house in full force. Gone are the days when I could simply distract my niece with a cookie or a laugh. Now when you make Ady mad, it's a full blown, tears streaming, hair pulling, screaming fit. A few weeks ago, she wanted a cookie and her mother refused. Since she was already running on a sugar high, that was the only reason she needed to plop down on the kitchen floor and wail "wahh!"
Being the fun Aunt Ali that I am, I caved and tried to sneak her the cookie that she so obviously wanted. Oh no, that wasn't going to make her happy. It's the principle of the matter; it's the fact that we did not give her the cookie when she asked for it the first time. The plan to get her way lasted a while... she followed me around from room to room (just to make sure I was in listening range).

Her daddy was the only one who could calm her down. We did get some cute pictures from it though. Looks like we are in for quite an adventure this year!

Prepare to be Amazed

As I continue to craft, my sister's expectations continue to get higher and higher for me. The other night she found the picture shown above and asked me to recreate it. I told her that I am just not that talented. "Oh come on, it doesn't look that hard to paint!" She obviously has not taken an art class either. Finally she decided she would take on the challenge herself. When I asked her which paint brush she would like to use, she insisted on finger painting this picture with a great claim, "Prepare to be amazed!"
Oh, I was "amazed" alright...
If I ever need a good looking reindeer I know exactly who to call. Love ya sister!

Feeling Crafty as Directed by My Sisters

I am not an artist nor have I ever taken any art classes. I have never claimed to be an artist nor would I ever. But somehow my sisters have not received that memo. They keep coming to me with crafting projects, the latest project being to get my sister's new classroom together. Honestly, I cannot even tell the difference between acrylic verses latex paint. So naturally when my sister gave me the "gold" paint she wanted me to use, I didn't question it. It wasn't until I was past the point of return when I realized that the paint she had handed me was definitely more copper than gold.  Panic set in. I quickly grabbed more paint to mix with the copper I had already painted on. It looked better without my concoction. Frantically I grabbed the paper-towels to try and blot the paint off.
To my surprise the blotted paint didn't look half bad. Thankfully I have wonderful big sisters who gladly accepted my painting with a great "thank you." What a blessing it is to have a big sister that you know when she says, "I love it" she really means "I love you."
